CAP Program

Ben’s Auto is a State Approval CAP Facility

Ensuring that your vehicle passes the smog check has never been easier. We are one of the STAR stations in the Richmond area that can perform the repairs you need to turn over a failed smog check. We can also help you cover your expenses through the Consumer Assistance Program (CAP).

CAP Program Explained

  • What is the CAP Program?

The Consumer Assistance Program (CAP) is a program provided through the State of California and administered by the Bureau of Automotive Repair (BAR). This program is intended to help California’s air quality by providing consumers with financial assistance for their approved smog repairs.

  • How Do You Qualify for the Program?

If your vehicle fails its biennial smog inspection then the CAP program provides up to $1,200 in assistance towards certain emission-related repairs. You must file an application for this service before having any repairs performed. These repairs must be performed by an approved CAP facility in order to qualify.

  • Once Approved

You may bring your vehicle to our facility along with your approval letter to begin the next steps. It is important to note that the consumer does have to pay for a portion of the repairs and that portion is determined by the BAR.
